I'm trying to learn when I can prune my gardenia, but keep reading conflicting advice. One article will say early spring, another late summer, and others either early or late fall. Mine is the "double mint" variety and is in full bloom right now. It's supposed to bloom again late summer-early fall, although I didn't get a second round of blooms last year (its first year) so if it does I don't know when to expect it.

Knowing this, when is a safe time for pruning without worrying about cutting off the next season's blooms?
