No, the bathrooms don’t need to match. They should feel like they are part of the same home (you don’t want it to look like a showroom/ here’s our Tuscan bath, here’s our contemporary bath, and here’s our traditional bath...)

In my last house as an example the kitchen was high gloss white with Carrara counters. The master bath was also high gloss white cabinets with white porcelain counters and a Carrara backsplash, the guest has a walnut cabinet with a white porcelain top. They all tied together but did not match.

Should the side and backsplash match the countertops?

Sorry but there is no easy answer to that. It depends on the style of the space, all the materials used, etc. As an example in my current home the master has a granite counter with a 12" granite splash with integrated faucets. The guest room has a wall hung vanity with tile to 4' creating it's own backsplash.

If you have extra granite why not use it for your first floor powder room re-do?

I think using the same granite will look nice and add an air of continuity.

That being said, if you didn't have the extra granite left over, I wouldn't have fretted about it.

Ok, so now you have the same granite, if you are going to use it, that doesn't mean the first floor powder room needs to look like the upstairs bathrooms.

After all, people are only going to be using the toilet and washing their hands there.

You don't necessarily need a backsplash there unless you really want one.

Also, depending on the decor of your home and what you want to do, some people really doll up their guest powder rooms so they are jewel boxes, and paint the walls or use wallpaper and decorative faucets, etc.
