Cherry tree squirrel robbers! Aaack

last modified: 6 years ago

So I planted a cherry tree several years ago, and have yet to try a single cherry. They all vanish from the tree before they're even ripe. Haven't seen a single one fall to the ground, even.

Today, finally, I caught a robber in the act. A squirrel! He trapeezed from a nearby tree, snagged an unripe cherry, swung back, and then perched eating it like an apple, chattering at me.

Gaah! There's hardly any left this year on the tree at all, and its only June 1st.

I've looked at lots of deterrents, but nothing seems to work that looks feasible for squirrels.

My question is..... instead of a stick, how about a carrot? As in, I get a squirrel feeder from a local Farm & Fleet.

Assumedly then they'll leave the cherries alone, fat and filled to the bursting already. Or will I just end up with more squirrels.

Also- what kind of squirrel food?

Anyone have experiences with this.
