I have two American leather sofas- one is six months old in leather, the other is fabric eight years old. Both are comfortable.

Thank you for your suggestions Patricia! We will have a chair and ottoman in leather, that's why we're doing the sofa in fabric. The thing I like about this sofa is that when the headrest is lowered, it provides great lumbar support which is comfy for me, and when it's raised, it's more comfortable for my husband, so we get the best of both worlds.

I have bought 3 american leather sofas. They are great. Comfortable. The sleeper is amazingly comfortable. They are expensive but I think worth it.

We are considering purchasing the Meyer but are wondering what it looks like from the back when the headrest is up. Are you happy with the quality?

Hi Marcia H- We love it! Quality so far is good, seems like it's well made. We haven't had it for very long (since it's custom it took a few months to arrive). I can't speak to how it looks from the back because ours is against a wall. The customer service on Facebook is very helpful. They might be able to find a photo from the back if you can't get to a showroom to see one.

I have two American Leather leather sofas I bought in approximately 2000 from Marshall Fields in Chicago for $2,500 each. They have held up well all this time and still look almost like new. That said, I have no idea what their current quality is. I bought one of the lower end options as far as the leather goes, but they are supposedly the eight-way hand-tied springs.

I have an American Leather reclining sofa that is actually fabric. I have only had the sofa for two years and the sofa is lumpy and the seating cushion is deteriorating and looks terrible. I am the only person that sits on this sofa and I do not weigh 300 pounds. I paid premium dollars for this sofa but I did not receive premium quality.

Wow, Susan, you're exactly right! We ended up buying this sofa. We haven't had it long and it looks horrible. The bottom cushions are sewn to the sofa, so you can't move them around or even fluff them. Big mistake!

Are you sure they aren’t velcroed on? Mine are held in place with a 6” strip of Velcro- they feel stitched. Sucks if the quality has declined, it was a good brand for so long. My sofa is still great.

Nope, not velcroed. We asked the store we purchased it from and they said that was a design flaw in that sofa. They looked into having someone come to our house to add something to the seats to try to help, but said because the cushions were stitched to the bottom of the soft, there wasn't much they could do. We didn't even think to check that before we bought it because we'd never seen that before.

Who would think to check that? Ugh

Hi KPenni. Which sofa of theirs did you buy and did you get the down/ trillium fill, or their standard cushions? We're considering the Estero in down.

Hi Alex V, We bought the Meyer in fabric (not leather) with the down combo fill. We've had it about 5 years and it definitely has not aged well. The bottom cushions are wrinkly and there is no way to fluff them because they're sewn to the sofa. Just make sure you can fluff and rotate the bottom cushions before you buy. We never thought to check that and regret it.

I believe the one we're considering has loose cushions but will double check, that's a great point. We'd be getting one in fabric as well.

Did you sit on / consider the trillium (synthetic down) ? I was told that may be more resilient, though I haven't sat on it yet to see if it's less comfortable.

They only had the down combo at the store we went to and I don't remember them even mentioning a synthetic down. Not sure if was an option back then. We like everything else about the sofa though.
