yes. I have had them.... I was told to use glue when I made cuts on the stems when I made cuts, however, I guess that works on only certain kind of cane borers. I had a beetle borer that would just drill into the stem any place up and down the cane, So I used a systemic drench because sometimes the borer would start down at the bottom of my canes.

I too find them very irritating, but no roses killed so far.

back in the day.. i also used systemic sprays on roses ... as well as for diseases.. black spot.. etc ...

once kids came along.. i lost interest in spraying every 4 or 6 weeks.. during the growing season ...

i dont think there is any way around it ... though once you stop the reproductive cycle for a year or two.. you might not have to do it forever into the future ...

I've always just cut below borer activity on the cane (sometimes i cut through the little devil himself), and never lost a rose to this pest. I cut any infested canes early in spring when doing general pruning, and I can't tell which roses hosted the borers a month later or so. The roses are in such a hurry to regrow after a good prune--no evidence is left of the borers. Diane

thank you everyone, :) I have tried the systemic granules, but not a drench, and I was told about the glue too, but does that mean we have to glue every time we deadhead a flower ? or just a cane ? . my spray with "seven" systemic didnt work, and they took my roses right to the ground so very sad,

Sandy, I never glue anything--cane or flower. I doubt if it makes a difference in my garden. I don't use systemic granules or drenches either. If I glued every time I deadheaded a rose, I'd spend 24/7 doing nothing but that. Today, I spent several hours deadheading a small part of my roses. I can just imagine the time it would take if I was out there gluing away, too. Diane
