dining room refresh

We want to update the antique chairs (replace or paint?) replace chandelier, window coverings, paint, art, etc. Please provide your suggestions. Maybe we need a designer!

IMO a chandelier in a DR should light the table not the ceiling so i guess of those the 2nd one. As for chairs they do not work with the lighting you are looking at. Have you ever looked at ghost chairs There are some neat ones even in color.

Really like that huge window and all that natural light.. Great space.

Floors look good -- no rug really needed.

Of the three overhead lights shown, my preference would be the third one.

Really like the chairs. If they're still sturdy, do keep them. Like their current neutral color; however, if needed, paint them to suit your new room colors.

Replace the cushions with the appropriate cover colors as well.

Consider painting the walls of the dining room and the walls of the adjoining room to which it opens the same color.

Take the lead from your new chandelier and go bold with a mural. Everything else white, except for your buffet and table (which are gorgeous).

I would start creating ideabooks, save dining room design you like.

I say no to the first light. Number 2 and 3 are completely different styles so the question is what direction do you want to take the room? What does the rest of your home look like? Are you wanting a modern room? The second light would work for that. Black walls? , A great wallpaper? white Eames style chairs? , clean white drapery panels ? Or are you looking for something that is more transitional? The third light would work with that. Keeping the walls light? still wallpaper is a possibility. A more tailored chair? Is the dining table and sideboard staying? The wall sconces?

An update or refresh can mean a lot of things. You still want it to flow with the rest of your home. Think through these questions. The room is lovely and a chandelier, sconce and chair update may be the only thing it needs.

So all you really want to keep for sure are the table and buffet?

Thank you. Yes we want to keep the table and sideboard. I thought the chairs could be painted and/or reupholstered.

Thank you all for the great feedback. We will keep the sideboard and dining table. New draperies are white linen, two fold fan pleat, ceiling mounted. Love the mural idea- will search for design options. The chandelier is a big deal and we agree that it will have a big impact and drive the room direction. We like the more modern style given the antiques we have in this room and others in the home. Still on the fence about the chairs. They came from family in 1940’s and they were painted once (dark brown to grayish).

I have very similar dining chairs that I had custom made 30 years ago, so I know how difficult it would be to part with them. I love your antiques. Given you're going for a modern take starting with your lamp, you might want to consider another modern element or two in the room. Keeping your chairs would give it a more eclectic look.
