I just read a wonderful reply to this problem in another thread, but then my husband added a question/addendum: horsetail weed is growing in our weedy 'lawn'. So we plan to keep mowing it in hopes of weakening it.

But it is also growing in one of my raised beds next to our lawn. The raised bed has about 6-8 inches of soil above the lawn level. The 'lawn' is all hardpan.

I was planning on tearing out the raised bed and planting those plants in pots (to not spread any potential bits of horsetail weed into any other beds, etc.).

My question is...should I tear this bed out as planned, or just pull the horsetail weeds from the beds as they grow? Or should I cut the horsetail weed below the surface of the soil in the bed, so as not to pull and create more weeds?
