Kitchen remodel...help!!

We are about to remodel our kitchen. We are wanting White 42 inch cabinets, all drawers on the bottom, granite (probably going with white ice), getting rid of the step up in the bar area and along the free standing area, and adding a 36 inch pantry where the highchair is sitting. I am horrible at designing and creative ideas 🙈 I’m wanting simple, yet something I will want for the lifetime of this house. We just bought all new stainless appliances, so those will be part of this as well. We were going with a hood over the oven, but we bought an appliance bundle (they had it priced wrong, so we got it for $1,000 cheaper than what we should have), and it has an over the range microwave. That doesn’t bother me at all! We do have a budget, so moving all of the appliances around probably will not be an option. We will, thankfully, be painting the kitchen and living room Agreeable Grey (SW).

My questions:

1. Are white cabinets just a hot thing right now? has anyone gotten sick of their white kitchen? I love the cleanliness of it, but my husband keeps asking me if Im going to love it in 15-20 years 🤷🏻‍♀️ (We also have 3 kiddos, ages 8,6, and 8 months)

2. I am wanting a one bowl, stainless sink. I’m nervous about taking away a divided sink. What do you love/hate about your one bowl sink?

3. With the all drawer design, I lose silverware space That would be by my ”cooking area.” Is this a good idea or should I keep cabinets with small drawers going across?

4. What color would you do the handles? I love the black handles and knobs, but I dont know if I can put in a stainless faucet? (Like I said, I’m not good at this kind of stuff at all!)

5. Any suggestions are welcome!!

We just went from an old ceramic double sink (so hard to keep clean) to a large rectangular one bowl stainless sink. So much better. I never liked the divided sink. Impossible (in our small kitchen with smallish sinks) to soak a lasagne pan or a large skillet. As far as the fixtures, we did reface with white cabs and I went with nickel handles/pulls. I do really like the champagne color people are using now, though.

A lot of info that is hard to follow. What we need is a to scale floor plan of the space since moving plumbing is not in the budget show where that is . Mark all windows and doorways and all measurements clearly marked and make sure the drawing can be enlarged. I sure hope the fridge is a counter depth one. I see no windows and really awful lighting. I would suggest before doing anything else you get much better lighting in the way of pot lights with LED bulbs in 4000K then you can choose cabinet color and the wall color is the last thing you choose. I try to avoid appliance in angled walls so that floor plan needs to explain the need for the angle. I like drawer cabinets with 2 deep drawers and as wide as possible with 2 shallow ones on top .Do a true pullout pantry it will save the hassle of opening a door before using the shelves. I really think this could be better and I am guessing a cabinet salesperson did the plan.

It looks as if you have an electric range. 240v shouldn't be too difficult to move around the corner, especially behind cabinets where drywall patches won't be seen. I'd move the range to provide a larger prep area between it and the sink, since moving plumbing would be a much bigger deal.

And before anyone says, "Ewwwww, silverware over trash pull-out," you can get a divided cabinet, so there is a board between the can and the drawer above.

White cabinets have been 'in' since at least the movie Something's Gotta Give was released, but they've been around for decades. My sister's 1930's house still has the original white cabinets (she repainted) with the stacked uppers. My MIL put in a white kitchen in their new build in the 1970's (still the original white oil-based paint). I painted my wood cabinets off-white when we bought our house in the 1990's, and repainted in 2011 when I remodeled.

Some folks will always prefer white, and some will never like it. I always laugh when someone says white cabinets get dirtier than wood, which is wrong--white shows dirt, which can then be cleaned.

Yes to the large single sink.

I'll leave the layout advice to the gurus, but I have a large single sink and love it. I don't have white cabinets, but I do have black handles and a brushed nickel faucet and I don't think it looks odd at all since it's next to a stainless sink and we have a counter with a mix of colors. Good luck on all your planning!

Can you store you onions and potshots in your new pantry? Something that stands out to me is how there are tiny drawers between two large banks of drawers and none of the drawers or doors line up top to bottom. Makes it look like too much is going on. When possible try to keep your doors and drawers similar widths when you have a run of cabinets. I was a kitchen designer for many years and this small detail makes a big difference in the overall aesthetics. No matter what style your house is the cleaner the lines the the better the design. Also single bowl stainless sink is great option! And I too would update the lighting. Can’t tell what cabinet color to recommend from limited photos. What’s the style of the rest of your house?
