I would remove the existing rough wood trim and cap/trim it with the white trim style I see throughout the space. Then, add a small potted plant for warmth with a small framed photo and ceramic dish for keys beside it. Course, styling it for resale a plant or nothing would work fine too.

Love the combination of the wood flooring, stone entry and front door finish. You've done a lot of great updates!

I would have a “cap” made for it that can be removed if the next owners wants to use the space as a planter. A finished top (wood) with trim that fits OVER the existing planter and can be removed.

You could cover it with a cork door and add hinges so it can be opened and closed for storage. An inexpensive and functional solution.

Ikea sells doors with hinges, 19 1/2 w x 76 5/8 length or 90 3/8 length. Maybe you can cut to size if the width fits. This one is $70:

I like the idea of a removable top like a door or wood. Using hinges is a really cool idea too! So many great ideas!

I would get a couple of snake plants. Put them in (3) clay pots, so you can take them to the kitchen to water about once a week. These plant survive neglect and low light, but they are classic plant used in this type of container.
