IMO the picture you show is a good example of they should have stopped long before that mess was done IMO very often less is more . My experience has been if you want custom then get an architect and if you get an online plan and then start customizing you really open up an expensive can of worms.

The terms "customization" and "personalization" are often used interchangeably. I think it would be helpful for your Houzz pro to help viewers to understand the difference.

Custom built homes today may mean building from one of several builder plans with choices for cabinets, flooring, etc. This has advantages and disadvantages but will likely require compromise between what one wants and what can be had. A custom home from scratch provides a much more detailed approach to getting what one wants. However, it also greatly absorbs personal time and increases aggravation as more things need attention and can go wrong, increases cost of building, and injects risk into the project. Most people understand standardization reduces cost while doing one of a kind increases cost. I built a custom home from scratch. I would not do it again in today's environment with many trades unable to find competent skilled trade personnel and/or not having the patience to a job properly (or rushed to go to the next job).

I read HU-659769483 and I, too, would like to have some hardscaping projects done. I would like to hire a pro to do these projects because doing the job correctly and getting permits are a must. Houzz always suggests high-end pros, and when I contacted some of the pros suggested, I get a snubbed "we don't do that scale of project". How can we hire a quality pro that does not cost a fortune for smaller jobs and not total remodels?

Believe me, if I was still in my 20's I might start the jobs myself. I know what has to be done, I just can't physically do them. Also, our area use to be a hub, but with big business leaving it took out several reputable builders. I've looked up HGTV and DIY and they just don't come to my area.

Can we ever request HGTV to consider other areas.......and if so how do we go about it?

Renovating a master bath- double vanity OR large walk in shower? Not room for both.

Go with the double vanity. It will get much more use than a shower built for two. A huge shower might be nice but the double sinks are almost a necessity. It is fun being able to brush teeth together with your loved one.
