What gray? Those appear to be an almost natural color now, and I see nothing gray.

I agree with millworkman. Have you tried changing your lighting? I live in the north and agree with your gray feelings, but not seeing that here. Warm lighting can help.

I think the OP means the weather is gray? I think the cabinets are beautiful and already very warm. I've always heard maple is difficult to refinish/stain. If you change the color, they will no longer match the trim in the rest of the house.

IMO address the lighting first . All the bulbs should be LED and in4000K it will immediately feel like the sun is shining. I live ie BC where we have a lot of dreary days and those bulbs really do help. I probably would look at painting the walls a different color though. All that beige would feel dreary to me.

Your color scheme seems a bit dated and as Ruth McMaster said - maybe a bit too earthen. Would you consider painting your walls and trim first? That might go a long way toward livening your home up and would provide more contrast to your cabinetry. If your kitchen needs lightening further then you can paint your cabinets. Good luck!

Your cabinets are a beautiful warm tone. However, the walls could use a change of color. No, not white. Can’t tell from the pic, what colors are in the granite?

The biggest faux pas I see in your kitchen, is the cooktop on the island, with no vent hood above.

My guess is that the picture is what the OP wants, not what they have.

@Hillside House must be right. I googled the OP’s mention of “seadrift maple”, and found these images. I would prefer a natural stain for any maple cabinets, but the logistics challenges and cost of making that change will be big.

My cabinets have a grey, they are a little warmer than the picture above. The warm lighting makes it hard to see in posted pictures.

I expect to change the paint and potentially the countertop to a warm and light granite or marble.

Is there value in re-finishing the cabinets to get a warmer tone on them? I like a light and warm maple in a natural shade or slightly darker caramel. It is an expensive task to sand and re-polish the cabinets so I was wondering if the implementation would be successful. I would be disappointed if the polisher told me that after all the effort and cost - yes, grey is a bit hard to get rid of, so it'll always have that undertone...

Would folks who have re-finished a cabinet in this colour be able to share their experience and gotchas.

Also, if there is some well known alternative to strip and sand such that one can change the stain colour with minimal effort, please do share - particular stain / material that can go over the existing stain with less effort and hide the grey rather than getting it out completely...
