I love the look of Saltillo. The installation is what I don't like. It is a thick tile which is set into a floating mortar bed = thicker than you would think.

If your floor heights allow for it, go for it. Check your door clearance (exterior and interior doors) to ensure you do NOT have to trim and rehang all of your doors once the Saltillo is installed.

That's a pretty cool space FWIW.

No problem...remember the real Saltillo needs waxing/polishing to REALLY show them off. The glossy Saltillo tiles show off their colours. Just make sure you get the maintenance 'stuff' as soon as you have the tiles installed. You can practice with a few left over tiles to get the hang of it.

The Saltillo will out live the house! I like the highly coloured ones (with the strong dark oranges mixed in with the light sandy ones) but it is your home. Make sure you get what you like!

You're right about them looking great with some wax. We have some dark navy blue saltillos in the front foyer and small powder room. That's what ignited my love for these rustic feel floors. And yes, they feel firm and they definitely feel durable and firm. Thanks for all the feedback!
