Help with colour :)

Hi everyone, I painted my whole interior Chantilly Lace and just added a Hale Navy wall in the dining room (which I adore!!). I find the all-white very bland in my bland house.

my question is how to pep up the open concept area.

i just put up navy curtains to blend in the living area with the dining. But I’m not a fan of a lot of contrast between wall and window treatments.

so it’s not sitting well with me.

i had white curtains but they made my sofa look dirty and drab. Would love new furniture but don’t have the $ for that right now.

im considering painting a second feature wall behind the sofa hale navy as well. Would that be too much? Or maybe a gray wall with gray curtains of some pattern.

i should mention, off the living room in my entrance that has a hale navy bench and the stairway with a hale navy wall going up the stakes.

dont mind the mess in the pictures (and my little girl eating icecream on the sofa).

i would love any advice!

I should also mention that the living room doesn’t get a lot of light. Not bad... but that big window faces north.

I think it looks good. I don't mind the blue drapes. Although, the blue might blend a little easier if you had a white/blue pattern? you'll have to find the right white that works w/your furniture.

Right now, the eyes go immediately to the window/blue drapes, since everything else is so neutral.

i love the addition of this pink too. blue/white pink looks great togeth

What about a bold piece of art on the wall? something w/blues/yellows in it? maybe over in the right corner? (i'd move the black lamp or maybe get a diff color shade for it. the black seems a tad out of place there)

doesn't have to be van gogh, I'm just showing you how the eye has something else to go to.

anything with a bit of color to it, other than the drapes. you know?

Thanks Beth! Yes art is my next step for sure! And I agree that a different curtain would work better. A pattern would be nice - but still struggling with the bright white walls and the off-white couch. Not sure how to blend a pattern fabric to work with both.

Cute little girl.

Like your blue dining room wall. The white furniture has a cool vibe and works well in the north facing room.

With no lights, plants would not do that well.

You are two thirds of the way to a patriotic theme -- would you want to add a touch of red -- but not an overpowering amount. With a stud finder, find the first stud, usually about 16" away, on each side of the window frame and add a touch of red left and right window frame. Consider these.

The idea is to pair a burst of color. You could also set your candle grouping on the coffee table atop a red serving tray or a tray in the other third bold color you choose.

You might also consider changing out all the lamp shades in the room to be the same large bright white ones.

You could choose a bright blue or bright green or even bright yellow instead of aiming toward patriotic red/white/blue.

IMO the navy drapes would work very well if the rug had some navy in it . I also would caution about too many accent walls they can become a bit overdone. I would also find a home somehere else for the mirror and get a nice piece of art for the DR .
