Garden recovery and cooler days

After the damage from Christobal’s rain (total was over 5 inches) and wind on Monday, the wind continued to howl like a banshee (always wanted to say that) Tuesday night. I was expecting more damage yesterday and did get some with more scapes down-probably weakened by the day before and more blooms with missing petals or broken and hanging. However, the gardens probably had their best clump day ever. It reminded me of the resilience of these plants. The wind brought a cold front with cooler temps, resulting in deeper, more intense colors.

I photograph this section of my garden most often because it is my favorite. Can’t see the damage here!

Beautiful garden shot and such lovely clumps. The daylilies always reward you after a rain. We didn't get much rain, just that terrible wind. Thankfully, it is calm today.

Ooooo Kate, such lovely garden photos! Such a nice performance after the storm. We had wind gusts here at 70 mph, constant wind at about 40mph, it is windy here most of the time. Elegant Candy is the prize performer today, what a clump and so many more buds.

Wow! That first shot is so amazing and just filled with colors! Elegant Candy makes a gargantuan clump for you. Entwined in the Vine and Isle of Patmos and Purple Sombrero are gorgeous. Porcelain Ruffles looks pure and refreshing as the rain. I'm glad most things are still standing for you after Cristobal!

Debra, I just felt the gardens saying, “No worries, no whining, we got this!” By throwing such a beautiful bloom day at me! And while some scapes are down permanently, there still will be lots left to enjoy!

Sherry, wow on your wind! I don’t know how high our gusts got but I would think pretty high. I think it was the combination of wind and beating rain that caused most of the damage. Sometimes those sheets of rain can be worse than wind.

My favorite, bed shots, and they look absolutely wonderful. Those clumps are amazing, and EITV is of course my favorite. It bloomed here with its 1st blooms, and is so amazing. I will post soon

I love that garden shot especially, it is really pretty. Purple Sombrero looks so good, and EITV is fabulous.Isle of Patmos is a favorite too. I love the rich colors. The front bed is looking really good, and that is a huge clump of candy. what a nice post, Kate.

So lovely, Kate! Everything looks amazing. My friend in Byhalia didn't know how much rain they got there, but I guess probably around what you got.
