Not loving your choices, I would want something a bit brighter, not so burgundy.

In case you are new here, asking about kitchen runners is as bad as asking about shoes or no shoes in the house! 😄 Strong opinions at either end of the spectrum!

I like rugs in the kitchen and currently have a light colored hand knotted wool rug on one side of the island. It cleans up easily and no one has tripped ...

Do you have a Roomba? Dark floors and dark rugs need a daily vac. If you're a messy cook, check out the washable rugs at Ruggable.

Have a runner if you want one. No idea why these threads ALWAYS elicit the tripping and filth comments from those who don't want a rug in their kitchens. Gah.

I like the reddish one, as it brings a pop of liveliness to the space. That said, I might consider something slightly less subdued. You have a fairly neutral backdrop that would work well with just about anything, but you could have a bit of fun with a slightly bolder look if so desired.

Thanks all. Yes we do tend to tidy up well and have a Roomba. The kitchen is open to our living room which also has a patterned rug. So we are trying to see what dinner works best to complement the living room

I voted #2. I like the red tones in it, lovely and classic.

I think the brick blue works better with your living room rug if that's a consideration.

I like the olive. I think it works well with the backsplash and has a bit more contrast with the floor than the redder ones.

As for the argument about kitchen rugs being filthy, I guess it might depend somewhat on the cook, but I don't generally find them to be an issue. I am not a particularly tidy cook, though I'm not a total slob, but I rarely find myself needing to wash the rug. I wouldn't put one immediately in front of the stove, but that's about it. (I've slopped plenty of stuff down the front of the stove ... slosh the paella pan when adding the broth, spatter the shallow frying oil, etc.) I get things like flour everywhere, but those vacuum off a rug as easily as they do off a floor. I've only wiped out one rug, and that was dropping a cookie sheet cookie side down (sad, sad day ...); it was a pale colored rag rug and was permanently stained, but the loss of the cookies was the sadder part.

The only tripping hazard in our kitchen is the dog getting underfoot ... especially when I'm being untidy.

Conclusion? Don't drop your cookies on your rug.

I had to relook at all of them because they are so similar and to tell you the truth, they all feel a bit somber to me. I would be focusing on what compliments your kitchen vs trying to match up to living room rug. You can incorporate the living room‘s colors, but don’t worry about the patterns having to be similar. Suggest more a interesting and lighter patterned rug to compliment floor and give the kitchen character.

I have a runner in my kitchen for decades. I like the extra cushion it provides and I think it protects my wood floor. Plus I like the look.

    That's a beautiful rug, Maureen.
