Something on my plum tree leaves

I live in NW Wisconsin. What is this? Bug eggs? Every leaf is covered with them. I was going to spray with an organic soapy mixture, but would like to know what I'm dealing with. I have another plum tree and two apple trees that are not affected yet.

Spindle leaf galls. It is a reaction or growth in the plant tissue due to a type of mite. While a bit funky looking they are actually quite harmless. Not necessary to treat and it is too late anyway.

Thank you gardengal! My husband swears they are eggs and thinks they are killing the tree. I will research this spindle leaf gall. At least now I know I'm not going to have a tree full of worms!
