I have read that cornices are out and can date a room. I am redoing a very small 11x11 bedroom and was stumped for window treatments. I cannot do drapes or curtains, as the dresser is literally against the window frame, the only place it will fit ( small size youth dresser at that). Blinds on the window must stay. I wanted to soften the window a bit, so I built and covered a cornice box.

I hope the color & fabric I used for the cornice is contemporary enough not to date the room.
