Soil and Indoor Potting Mix

The common wisdom is not to mix regular garden soil with potting mix (peat moss etc) for indoor use. But I just wonder if it is still helpful to mix in a small amount of regular soil to absorb water.

I have a pile of aged compost (wood chips). It has some amount of soil from the worms etc. I'd like to use this instead of missing new potting mix from peat moss. This is just for some jasmine plants. Not very picky with soil.
