We have purchased a new house with a rather large kitchen. The current kitchen is painted honey oak built-in place cabinets from the late 1980s. It was a great kitchen for its time but is dated and in need of a lot of repairs. A majority of the doors on the cabinets have warped, the previous owner was short and lowered some of the cabinets, plus there is an original soffit around the kitchen area that drops the ceiling to about 7'-6" except for the middle of the kitchen where it is 8' tall in a location that used to probably have a very large fluorescent light fixture.

Anyhow, we are just looking for some suggestions on changes. We are thinking of removing part of the small appliance garage area to open up more view into the living room and the windows in that room, remove the soffit and replace the cabinets.

Most of the appliances are newer and we would be looking at reusing them except for the dishwasher which has some issues.

There is a long walk between the stove and sink so the butcher block island gets a lot of use.

We will probably go with a KD but would like to solicit feedback to bring to the KD.
