Yes, we were going to buy bushes, but these roses are from my grandpa's funeral, so they have sentimental value, and we wanted to try growing bushes from them.

There is a propagation forum on Houzz here you could look at regarding rooting roses. Depending on where you are, some stick the cutting outside in the ground in the shade with a inverted glass over it creating a greenhouse effect and pray. Keep the spot watered.

If you already started it in a potato, trying to do something else now won't work, it's already used what energy it had. Just leave it alone, it will either grow or it won't. But break off the potato sprouts!

I've seen that potato thing on facebook several times and it's a bunch of hooey! As sautesmon said, I doubt it will work now but leave it alone and wait. It can take 8 weeks or more for a rose to begin to root. You never know. You could get lucky!
