Sorry I have no idea what would be better than what you have IMO the biggest issues are the 2 mirrors that are reflecting nothing worth seeing twice and the TV mounted so that you have to laying down to watch it not to mention at an angle. Color would be easy to add with some are art instead of the mirrors . Why the piece of cardboard in front of the fire box?

I would prefer slab stone pieces rather than small tiles to finish off this nice fireplace. I agree the two mirrors are not reflecting anything I want to see twice. I would replace them with some colorful (tasteful, not garish) art if the tv stays there. As much as I dislike the tv above the fireplace, you haven’t shown us the rest of the room and a possible alternate location on the opposite wall, preferably at eye level.

The house is completely open concept so the tv over the fireplace is the only option. Your comments are appreciated

I see a chance for you to bring in some contrast to go with the black in your mirrors. I’d do a nice large(or solid if u can afford it)matt black stone like slate or honed?the stuff the use in science class?)in the surround. It’ll tie it all together and look like a little tuxedo:)

I like your mirrors I just think they may be hung a bit too high for their size. Try lowering so their tops r a few inches below the top of fireplace n put a big basket or table under each

If you are going to use the fireplace, consult with an expert about the safest and most attractive surrounds.
Regarding the TV, can you reposition one of the sofas to a right angle, so TV can be viewed straight on instead of having to look left or right to view (ouch!)? Your current furniture is ideal for a no TV sitting room, but not a room to share TV with others.

Personally, I think what you have looks fine. But if you want change, then consider black slate, absolute black granite, or something in a brown tone (see examples).

How the fireplace looks without the cardboard may also make a difference. Can you post a picture with it removed?

Also, I'm wondering, is the mantel new? It does not look up to code. Mantels that project out like yours usually require at least 12" to 16" from the top of the fireplace to the bottom of the mantel and maybe more than 6" on each side depending on your fireplace. Have you checked into that?

What a beautiful room. The elements and colors are beautiful and soothing. Sadly it seems as if the fireplace is where the TV needs to go in so many houses these days. I wish for you that you had another room for the TV. It does look as if it is difficult to watch from the couches.

My husband is a mason and I agree, the solid black surround would be beautiful.

Can we get pictures of the rest of the room with your back to the fireplace as well as measurements? That will help a lot. Why? Well perhaps we can help with better placement of the TV and than more comfortable viewing, if you like.

I agree a black surround would look great. Not a fan of the mirrors :(. Artwork will give the space life. I’ve seen some great black and white modern art at One Kings Lane if you want to stay more monochromatic. Love the pup!
