Daylily question

I want to start potting up some of my daylilies to sell or give away after they finish blooming.

I have a lot that are pretty but not my favorites and I'm cutting back on all gardening.

What size pot and what potting mix would you use?

I think 1 gallon is too small but don't want to use bigger than necessary. Pots and potting soil is so expensive.

I'll probably want to keep them potted until next spring.
