If storage were an issue, I'd go with the asymmetric closets. But I think that otherwise this bookcase adds a little pizzaz -- you can put mostly beloved books in it, with a couple of knick-knacks or special photos mixed in, and it won't feel like enough space to be a giant decoration challenge, but also enough to add some visual variety to the wall. There are defiinitely bookcases this size (we have a smaller one for cook books in our dining room!), so it's not like one of those tiny shelving spaces in bathrooms that only hold toilet paper and rolled towels. I think you'd be glad to have it.

Only other thought is whether either of you currently have any clothes folded up. For example, I have a walk-in closet, and still Spouse and I each have a substantial dresser for t-shirts, pants, socks and underwear, sweatshirts. Your floor plan doesn't appear to have room for any storage furniture -- given that and the size of your main closet (by the bathroom), I'd consider having each of these units be one hanging bar and a couple of substantial drawers, at least.

I generally prefer asymmetry. I like odd numbers of flowers and slightly unbalanced wall galleries. I also generally dislike open shelves unless there is something drop dead gorgeous or special to show and highlight. Knickknacks and doodads are dust collectors. Therefore, I would have closets of unequal size. I would also have different doors to emphasize they are not a matched set. I hate matchy.

(also, you'll want a wheeled cart for bringing meals from the kitchen to the dining room)

There will be two places where I'll have some drawers. In the other closet, those will actually be a hanging bar above custom built drawers (since I think I'd rather have the drawers hidden rather than staring at a bunch of drawers from my bed?). It will look like the below in that other closet:

I also think I will be able to put a short dresser with a mirror above here, in the bedroom. Right now that floorplan is showing a king size bed and mine is a queen so there will be a little more walking around space than you might think. That wall is about 40".

@Louise Smith Hmm, I haven't every thought about how different doors would look. Have you ever seen anything like that?

I think you've got a great plan. I would make the shelves adjustable though, so you have options for their use. You can use some for woven baskets that fit on the shelf for small items.
