This one has weird flattened areas

Looks like rust, but I have no experience with white-variegated masoniana.

Nancy, mine look like that too. It’s mostly the older leaves. I don’t worry about it too much. Every once in a while I cut some of the unsightly ones off. I need to repot and trim them now.

Barb do you keep yours in a plastic or terracotta pot? Right now mine is in a hanging basket pot and it's right to the edge. It's hard to find wide shallow pots for them.

I keep all my plants in plastic. Those terracotta pots are heavy and I am too old to be lifting them. It is really hard to find shallow pots, but I agree, they would be better. There must be some on the internet we could order. Maybe a larger hanging basket pot?

I ordered a 12" planter bowl last summer but it was too shallow. I might plant my green hahnii in that bowl instead having partial pots because some croaked .

I like the idea of using hanging baskets. With the roaming rhizomes, the curved bottoms are perfect for training them upwards. I see them along the road before trash pick up in the fall and I pick them up. Wife hate me picking up garbage along the road but I always say, "one man's trash is another man's treasure".

I would hesitate purchasing a pot like that on line not seeing it or knowing how thick it is. It does look about right for the job. Most of those hanging baskets break down under UV sun rays if not treated. I think that is a good thing due to most are throw away after one year.

A few days ago, Barb posted about it being difficult to find shallow plastic pots -- and I agree. Like Barb, most of my plants are in plastic pots because I, too, am too old to be lifting large clay pots. Regarding shallow pots....I have bought some from the Greenhouse Megastore online. They are Panterra Bowls, and they are about 8" in circular width, and maybe 4 inches high.

I have used them for Haworthia that pup easily but don't seem to grow long roots. Also for a "brain cactus." GM also has these pots in longer oval planters that aren't too deep. And like Stush, I too have used plastic hanging baskets to try to get rhizomes "trained" upward. Not much luck though -- haha!
