I think finding art with the burgundy of the rug could be a hurdle to climb.

Should you decide to select the gold/green art you may want to introduce the plum color in art glass on your table and sideboard. Also turn your mirror vertically to add more visual height to the room.

One large statement piece would be my choice for that wall. I think your room is beautiful and elegant.

You don’t have to match your art to the room. The art should be a piece that you love. You can take the room colors into consideration in your choice, of course. But you have flexibility.

My suggestion is to get a big, round updated mirror for over the buffet. Move the large plant to the far right corner. Remove the 3 small pictures and the tall glass vase with dried flowers out of the room. You may not need a picture once the weight of the plant balances the room. I agree your dining room is elegant and sometimes less is more. Very pretty.

Yes, definitely get art you love. Art should evoke an emotion, fond memory, etc. and be meaningful to you. It should make your heart sing every time you see it.

I second the suggestion above to bring in plum with accessories. The issue I see from the mock up is that your chandelier bulb shades will block anyone from seeing the art. Unless it can been seen when seated.

By the way, how do you plan to bring in a “global” theme? Your items don’t say “global” to me. I am not understanding your vision for the room.

Look at photos of staged model homes in your area to see if they puddle drapes...here the designers do floor length, no puddling any more.

Also see if the staged homes have painted picture molding...here the entire wall below the chair rail is painted the same color as the chair rail, giving the lower part of the wall a cleaner design.

You say metal art is an option. I can’t envision how metal art on your DR wall will fit with the “polished” vibe you are trying to create. I don’t see it fitting with your inspiration photos. Look on YouTube to see artists explain how contemporary art painting is easy for anyone to create. You can add your plum, neutral, and celery green colors in it and the subject matter doesn’t have to be recognizable.

You don’t need a mirror in the DR. Removing the mirror gives you more area on and above the buffet to create your contemporary/transitional/global vibe.

Are you using plum and celery green as accents in the entry? In any other public rooms? Do you have a 3rd color you use elsewhere that can be added to the DR?

Your photos don’t show the DR taken from the kitchen doorway towards the entry. Would you mind posting pictures from some more angles?

I am thinking the thin plant stand is not fitting with the Asian buffet style and is not transitional/contemporary/global and it is not visually weighty enough for this big room.

Would you consider adding a shade orange as an accent along with the celery green? You could go deep orange as a pop of color, or paler orange about the intensity of the celery green .

What is rolled up under the window? TOTALLY agree on the curtains being much too long. That NEVER looked good IMHO--sooo glad it is no longer done!! Global got my attention too. Are you world travelers? I would want something personal displayed that was collected on my travels. There are definitely places in the world where your color choices would be on display. A piece from a place you have never been could inspire awkward conversation. Even if you didn't acquire it while traveling to get it now would still give you the option of saying "it reminds me of our trip......"

You have what appears to be a rolled-up rug under the window. Is it a rug you would or could use in the dining room? If not, remove it. Have the curtains shortened.

I really like BeverlyFLADeziner's ideas for wall art and adding plum with art glass on table or sideboard. another thought is to add two large plants to corners of back wall, move the one you have to opposite corner and add a second. that, with the art could make a nice feature when you look in the room

I would choose art because you love it not because it has the right colors . Art works in spaces even if it contains no colors in the room. No to the etageres they would just add clutter. IMO empty vases are best not displayed. So choose a vase and fill it with real flowers when you want them. I like puddled drapes but those are way past puddled and way too skimpy , in that fabric they should be 3 x the width of the rod.Please no fake greenery , plants or flowers. I would do an oversized piece of art on that wall.

You already have a mirror over the buffet, so art is the way to go. If you want to add some silver to the room, consider it for the tray ceiling. Paint or wallpaper there could be just the finish you need after art!

What do you think of painting orange on walls (but not as dark as in the inspiration photo below), and paint an accent on tray ceiling to draw the eye up, painting trim color between the baseboard and chair rail, and beefing up the window treatment to look more polished? Is the chandelier staying?

Mandala art for your global vibe. You could paint those circles yourself.

Paint DR walls above chair rail green and add print fabric drapes.

Or neutral walls and green fabric print drapes, with similar shade of white as in rug.

Definitely take away whatever is rolled up near the window. Shorten or replace the drapes. Your room screams elegant so I am not sure what “worldly” items you’re thinking of. There are gorgeous purple accessories everywhere, so start searching on the internet and locally. See this room as “evolving” and take your time. It’s very pretty already. Just needs some tightening up of some features. Love the rug!!

I like marylut’s suggestion ^ for a modern-but-Asian look to the chandelier. Or you can go traditional with the lighting, but you need more drama on the ceiling.
