Yes, the bottom of the pot would be in the water.

If you kept a pot of growing coleus wet all of the time never allowing it to dry it would probably rot and die. If you submerged a pot of growing coleus it would probably drown, rot and die faster. Coleus is not known for being an aquatic plant.

To contradict myself completely you can root coleus cuttings in water fairly easily, maybe if it was planted in a hydroponic medium it could survive living in water better than if grown in soil.

It is fun to experiment, Maybe you could take some cuttings and hold them down with a rock at the water's edge (so the leaves are above water) and see if they grow roots for you.

they are water hogs ... and if the pot were large enough.. and only the bottom was in water ... im thinking a coleus ... would probably find its own balance in a good draining media ...

i learned most everything pre WWW.. and all i had was experimenting .. and this sounds like an easy experiments ... keep us posted ...
