Hopefully they are not voles, as they will eat the roots of daylilies and kill them. I have used Have-A-Heart traps for chipmunk removal. Better get the small one as the chipmunks can escape the bigger ones. I have also used mousetraps with peanut butter. I bait the have a heart with apple and peanut butter. As far as the daylilies, I would reset them.

My position is .....Live and let live , and relocate the daylilies if you are concerned. We are losing far too many of our animial species and I won't contribute to that not for a daylily or anything else. I guess it is a real personal choice.

My old cat took care of the chipmunks several years ago. I never saw bodies though there may have been some somewhere or may been eaten, or scared away. I don't know which, but they just disappeared.

To avoid vole damage or to get rid of voles and stop the damage, castor oil will make them leave without killing them. They supposedly cannot stand the smell. They killed several rose bushes, and daylilies and I tried so many products until someone posted this. There is a granulated castor oil product that is listed as a mole relief. It absolutely works for the voles. scatter it around and if you have them, they leave. Now that the feral cats are around, they occasionally do catch and kill one of the voles, but I would rather just run them away. I keep a couple of bags of the product on hand.
