Beautiful blooms! First of all, I love your Abilene Lillian seedling! What a great edge! I love the white watermark on the Barbara Mandrell seedling. Dearest Mahogany also catches my eye. I have considered getting that one, but since we are trying to downsize, I have put it off. The Blazing Saddles seedling is beautiful and sounds like it has great stats. It's so nice to get a beautiful seedling with good stats also. It frequently seems like the prettiest flowers have terrible stats. Beautiful flowers and great photography!

Thank you, Nan! I agree that prettiest seedlings often don't have the plant habit to go with the face. I'm not yet impressed with the plant habit on Dearest Mahogany, but I don't have it in the ground yet. It is a very pretty face.

Divas in Diamonds is a pretty pink. I like it even for a UF. Pinks are one of my favorite colors as you know. However too many of them aren't colorfast and I have limited room for pots of paler pinks. Which brings me to your beautiful pink seedling. Love the medium shade of true pink I see in your picture and the edge shows Pink Aloha heritage. Fingers crossed on it being colorfast/sunfast with good stats. Keep us updated on it............Also, really like Velvet Throne. I only have one Petit, (new this year and unlikely to bloom), how do you find his daylilies in general?..............Maryl

Maryl - I've bought most on my Petit daylilies on the Lily Auction from a variety of sellers. I don't keep track of which sellers I buy from in a database like some people do.. I think Velvet Throne came from Carol Anderson in PA. I don't remember what her LIly Auction seller name is. There's one currently who sells a lot of Petits on the LA. I wouldn't recommend her. Every one I've ever purchased from her has died. She had such poor feedback that she recently changed her identity on the Lily Auction. If you want to make sure to avoid her, send me a message.

As for checking sunfastness for you, we've got highs of only 80s for the forseeable future. Most of them look pretty good at the end of an 87-89 degree day. That pink seedling is doing better this year than last. It won't open at all when nights are cool. The color and shape of the bloom are good.. It fades, but still has some color left at the end of a 94 degree day. The one you liked last year out of Pink Aloha is doing a lot better than that one - faster increase, more buds, etc. It also always opens well, not matter what the weather is. I'll post a photo of it soon.

I don't buy off the LA. I really like to talk to a person (about rust for one thing) before I order. It is funny about vendors though. I was talking to one last year who disparaged one of my main vendors because of the size of the fans (they said they sent bigger ones). My reply was that I had a 95% success rate with those fans, so they made me happy. Interestingly enough the one this other vendor sent died this spring (I only bought one). Just faded away. No blame of course. It was a Trimmer daylily and those deep south daylilies usually have a hard time surviving very long here...........It was 84 degrees yesterday here too. I didn't expect that so had other things scheduled to do outside of maybe an hour or two in the garden. Today we are back up to a humid 94 with temperature gradually climbing upwards. Gardeners luck.............Yes, please post your other seedling out of Pink Aloha. Maryl

Wonders indeed! Love American Doll such a beauty. Mine will bloom (hopefully) this year (it's too tender for this climate). My other favorites from the named are Lilian's Thin Ice and Lady Betty Fretz. Such awesome seedlings you have, I especially like the Blazing Saddles sdlg and Buddy's Victoria Jade, such a nice purple color. And the white one is very lovely too, I love white daylilies :)

Maryl - a large percentage of my daylilies come from Lily Auction sellers. I'm not as concerned with rust as you. There are Southern sellers that I know have rust, so I now only buy from them in the fall. Winter temps kill any rust on the plants. I also buy from a lot of sellers on Plant Fans.com. There are several hybridizers I order from directly: Curt Hanson, Dan Hansen and the Pierces at Floyd Cove. I also bought several from Mike Derrow this Spring and I highly recommend him.

By the way, dementia struck again. That pink seedling is not Old Time Italian x Phik Aloha. I do have one that is that cross that I posted the other day. The one today is Old Time Italian X (Symphony of Praise x Natalie Antoinette). It is a medium pink without any peach tones.

Nat - Thanks for comments. I hope your American Doll will bloom nicely for you this . I've had mine for years and years, finally dividing it into four clumps last fall. Two of the clumps have better bud counts than every before this year. I'm pretty happy with seedlings I posted on this thread. The seedling out of Buddy's VJ didn't the have the teeth I wanted, but I think it's a really nice bloom, and that's the seedling out of the cross that has the best plant habit. It already has three fans and the bud count for a first time bloomer is OK: 10.

There are lots I like on here! They all look wonderful. I am glad you posted Velvet Throne-reminded me I have a small piece in a pot! It is certainly puny and may not survive but I am glad to see how pretty it is in bloom!! Your Lady Betty Frentz always looks good. There are so many beauties here today! Dearest Mahogany, Divas in diamonds, Reckless Girls, Velvet Throne, Bubblegum Delicious, and there is Blood of Martyrs again. I really like the Barbara Mandrell seedling and the Blazing Saddles seedling...In fact, that BS seedling is my favorite f all of them.. I like the color and the shape of it.

Oh my , your Blazing Saddles seedling is gorgeous! as is your Barbara Mandrell seedling ! Wow! You don't need any daylilies registered by other hybridizers you are growing plenty of beauties yourself.

Heather, kay and Kate - Thanks for the comments on the seedlings! The Blazing Saddles kid does attact attention with that dark eye and its size. The Barbara Mandrell seedling was puny and only had three or four blooms last year. But this year it had 9-10 buds per scape and the flowers were much larger. I love white watermarks on reds, so this is one I really want to improve.

Heather - I've been thinking about drastically downsizing my registered cultivars. I don't have time to weed, water, or photograph most of them now that the seedlings are my priority. My husband keeps saying he can't believe these are seedlings because they're so much prettier and vigorous than most of my registered ones.

I see a lot I like here. Reckless Girls is just the style I like, Purple Passion's Promise, and Dearest Mahogany. And Bubblegum Delicious too. Of the seedlings, the Abilene Lillian x Ruby Lipstick really calls to me. Or it did until I saw Blazing saddles!

That Abilene Lillian seedling is awesome. If I saw that in clump strength, I would probably not walk any further. The green throat really jumps out and the eye and edge color is great. It just seems to really pop.

Thanks Brad! Those three you mentioned are very nice. Velvet Throne can be splotchy at times, and with cool night temps, it has trouble opening.
