HELP! Would love some crisis-management ideas!

So, I’ll spare you guys the rant as to how this disaster happened and will cut to the point: There’s this gap between the hood and the cabinet above, and I NEED your wonderful ideas on ways to make it less awkward (/ugly)! Bearing in mind that apparently the gap is crucial for ventilation! (??!!) THANK YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!

I've seen radiator cover (sold at home center stores) inserted in the panel of cabinet doors. Perhaps a carpenter could build a frame with similar panel that wood fit in the space.

Either (1) raise that “hood” to meet the cabinet so you can mount it onto the bottom of the cabinet, or (2) replace it with a different hood that is taller. That hood looks kinda lame, and like it won’t exhaust well even if it were properly installed. I can’t tell what the hood’s underside situation is when I expand the pic on my phone. Also, is there ductwork going to the outside?

Where is the ducting for that hood?? I'd be more worried about that. I see no duct and no place for it move the air outside. and where is the outlet?

How about doing an entirely diff hood vent?? that one seems so small

why can't you move up the vent? another 6 inches really isn't going to make a diff.

what do you mean you 'can't seal it'? can you put anything on top of it?

what if you built a piece of trim to go across the face? the back of it would still be open but you'd be hiding the opening w/a large piece of trim. you could trim it out to match the cabinets.

or fill in the space with custom open cubbies that match your cabinets.

short of moving the hood to the cabinet I suppose you could get some wood from the cabinet maker and scribe a filler to fill the gap

Mae,,,so the gap is crucial for ventilation?? is this a vent that recirculates the greasy air and has no ducting?

well if the gap has to be there, and nothing can go above it, then why is this even a dilemma? Obviously you bought this kind of vent that needs the gap. if you can't do a shelf, or cover it with a piece of trim panel, even one with holes? then what else could you possibly do?

do you have ducting or does this vent need ducting?

GET A DIFFERENT HOOD VENT! that's the only way it will look less ugly.

You need a hood that does not vent out the top and back into the room.

What do you mean by needed for ventilation. Maybe you bought the wrong hood for your needs . This install is not right and it needs to be addressed, either it moves or you get the right one for the use.I see no venting at all.
