Bathroom Mini Makeover

I would appreciate advice on how to give my bathroom a fresh and more modern look by only changing wall color, lighting and/or fixtures and hardware. (Basically I don't want to touch the vanity, flooring or tile and prefer to keep the mirror if possible.) Other accessories and the shower curtain can also be replaced.

The vanity and mirror are dark brown. Flooring and tiles are tan. This is the only full bathroom for my husband, young son and me.

Wall colors I have in other rooms on my second floor are Sea Salt, North Star and Rarified Air (all by Sherwin Williams) - to give a glimpse into my typical choices.

If I was doing a full renovation there would be no hint of tan or brown but I have to work with what I have!

Honestly, it looks pretty nice as is.

Given what you want to keep, probably new lighting will have great impact on the space. Is that nickel or chrome that you have and would like to continue with?

Also, I love your shower curtain but I don't know that it goes great with what you have there. (I think it could work great in my guest bathroom though. do you remember where you got it?lol).

I think as much as you don't love the beige and brown, the shower curtain needs to have some relevance to it.

I agree with salonva. This is not a bad looking bathroom at all!! I think the blue is a great colour to pair with your sand tiles. (It's not beige, it's sand. ;-)) Think of the beach: blue sky and sand. Beautiful, natural pairing. Check out this Carla Aston post about designing with travertine. Blue is a great accent colour for beige tiles. I would warm up the walls with the same warm white as your cabinet above the toilet (on my screen, the walls look icy blue - perhaps they're not irl?) and add some gold to the room with a new light fixture. Something with these types of curves. (The curved frames in the room are a beautiful detail - I'd repeat those soft lines.)

You could paint the mirror frame gold. Consider repeating the shower curtain blue by painting the storage cabinet blue, replacing your wastebasket with a blue one or adding a blue soap dispenser or blue towels.

Thanks, the fixtures are nickel. I am open to other metals.

The current shower curtain was on clearance at Target a few years ago.

Maybe just updating the light fixture, a new shower curtain and some fresh paint would liven it up a bit.

thanks @tartanmeup that link has some good suggestions. The walls are an icy blue (something by Behr's disney line of paints based on an old can prior owner had left but I don't recall color name).

Here is the finished product. I ended up painting the walls SW Extra White to match the trim. Originally I went with SW Greek Villa but it looked too creamy so I changed it.

I liked the idea of using blue as an accent. I painted the vanity (BM Hale Navy) and painted the storage cabinets (SW Krypton). I changed the cabinet knobs, mirror, light fixture and towel ring/rack and shower curtain.

Cabinet knobs - Patton knob in Aged Brass from Rejuvenation

Light fixture and towel ring/rack - Mercer collection in polished nickel from Pottery Barn

Mirror, shower curtain and rod - Target
