See any damage? Look closely at the webs, maybe blow on them and you may see the spiders. It may be a shadow but I think I see a funnel on the web in the middle of the pic indicating a funnel web spider.

Hi TJ,

There is some minor damage - a very small percentage of leaves have some holes in them. It doesn’t seem like an inordinate amount. I blew on the webs as you recommended and didn’t see any movement.

I sprayed them off with a strong jet of water from the hose. I don’t want to spray insecticidal soap if it is a spider that is helping! But if it’s a spider mite infestation I’d rather be proactive with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
I was curious if anybody might be able to differentiate between mites and a lone spider based on the web structure.

Spider mites won’t make holes. Their damage would look like chlorotic blotches.

mites dont make webs like that.. imo ...

this is a mid to fall thing out here in the country ... pretty spectacular on dewy mornings ... all the webs.. in the lawn.. the plants.. etc ..

imo.. ignore ...

show us some of the damage... if you wish ...

never forget.. spiders.. OUTSIDE..lol .. are our friends ... they are eating more of what you dont want to see ...

and frankly ... the webs are natures art .. pretty cool.. if you can just enjoy them ...

Thanks Ken! Agreed. Spiders outside are our friends!! Maybe the lone spider will have built them up again by the morning. Building my own little eco system out here and trying to get a handle on the ropes!
