I am wondering if you know how to use the database in the HL? Also on the home page of the HL, in the left column, 5-6 line down, there is a “comparison” button. You can bring these two hostas up side by side and compare them in several pictures. Now in my opinion from looking, they are very similar, but to me Minuteman seems to have a darker leaf and a wider white margin. See what others have to say. Good Luck! Welcome to the forum.

Actually, Minuteman is a "sport" of Francee. Hosta often change or mutate into a prettier (or maybe uglier) version of themselves. Sometimes it's a change in color, borders, size or textures. That "sport" is separated out and used to start a new line/name by cloning. In this case, Minuteman has wider borders, deeper green color and a heavier texture.

HL is a good site. I didn't know about the comparison feature. All great info. Still looking for info about size differences. I have a 2 year old Francee which I love but it's taking over the garden. I don't want to have to divide it every 2 years. I want a smaller version of Francee for that spot.

Yes, Minuteman and it's cousin, Patriot, are less vigorous than Francee (at least they were in my garden).

Patti, when you have time to look, the comparison button takes you to a side by side picture of the hosta “1 2 Adore.” Up above each phot, next to the name, is a downward arrow. If you touch the arrow, it will allow you to scroll down, don’t go to fast, to one of the hostas you want to compare. Then find the other hosta on the other side. The library will have several pictures of each hosta for you to compare Side by side. I hope that helps!!

That's such a great feature!! I love that site. But it doesn't always give you the mature measurements.

This is true, but it is a tool in our arsenal when trying to ID hostas!
