As a rule, I was advised against mounting my TV above my fireplace. It has to be mounted so high to not be affected by the heat that it becomes an uncomfortable viewing height.

So what are you wanting to achieve? This is a clients vacation rental that I helped her decorate last yr. I'm not a fan of putting a TV above the fireplace but it was the only place that had the wiring set up and made sense for the furniture layout of the room.

It’s a dilemma in my room too. It will be very high, but I have come across something called “Mantle Mount” that allows you to easily pull the tv down for easy viewing (when fireplace is not in use). It also has an”tilt” feature which we can use when the fireplace is on. Thank you for sharing.

Yes, the TV I show has that "Mantle Mount." Was that your "dilemma"?

This is our vacation home, which is in the middle of a forest. We redid the fireplace making it smaller, which was more proportional to the small living room. Then we mounted the TV on the wall to the left of the fireplace and put a bar credenza on the right side.

I was agreeing with you about the height of the TV after it clears the mantle. The room is tight, and my TV is 65” (which will consume the entire area above the mantle). There is no other wall to put the TV on. Thanks for sharing your picture. Do you have any thoughts on the Mantle Mount? Does it work well?

Have you talked to a contractor to verify that structurally that a stone fireplace could be added?

Regarding the Mantle Mount. I don't know if this was the exact brand name of the mount they used but they said that it works ok since they didn't have any other option for TV placement. And none of their renters have complained about it.

No TV above the fireplace. To high and we dont want the TV predominately displayed. Flat screen inside wall unit where it can be tucked away when not in use. However, we also have a second larger TV downstairs in a more relaxed/informal room where it can be seen and used in all its glory: -) We also live in a log home but since we built it ourselves, we were able to build out to accommodate our lifestyle.

Sorry, I got called away. Is there another location in your room where you can mount the TV on a wall at the appropriate height? I dont know if you have the option and/or considered floating the sofa in the room for viewing both the TV and/or the fireplace. It is difficult to tell with the picture you provided. Our sofa floats and it works out great. If we need to, we have two other armchairs that can be pulled into the viewing circle from another part of the room.
