Blooms on a hot Tuesday

It's really hot and humid here today. Here is what is braving the heat.

Samsational had its first flower open today and I can assure you it is as hot as the weather. This one came from Canada last year. It is Samsational. It is hard to get true color on this one.

Pixie Dragon is one of Jamie Gossard's small ufs.

We don't grow many doubles, but we like this one. It is Ella Bella.

Fox Point is putting on a show today. It's not the showiest flower in the garden, but it's vigorous and hardy.

Greywoods Roseberry Sorbet is not a fluorescent as this picture show, but it is a nice color.

Heavenly Whirly Bird has rather weak scapes. Still, I like the flower.

Hip Hop Music is a favorite of mine.

Martha Edson Norris is one of Richard Norris's big flat diploids.

This one is new to the garden. It's a small diploid called Odell.

Saber Tooth Tiger is really vigorous as well as toothy.

Volcanic Eruption was a bonus plant. I am not sure it will stay in the garden. It's nice but we have several similar to it.

I am not sure is there is a seedling Queen today. I didn't get many seedling pictures. This is Sunshine on My Shoulders (which is yellow) crossed with Ruby Grandeur. Often when you cross a red with a yellow, you get mud. Richard Norris said that Sunshine played nicely with red ones so we should try it with reds. He considers Sunshine his best introduction. Today several of this cross were open and this one was the prettiest. All of them are big flowers.
Peppy X Susan Ruoff. Peppy is a rather small flower but crossed with Susan Ruoff, we got this nice seedling.

Nancy I love Elle Bella! I have a few doubles here and like the contrast they add to the gardens. Samsational looks like a wonderful daylily! I would love to see it in person, the color looks very intriguing.

Hip Hop Music is my top favorite. I like the colors and the toothy edge. Fox Point makes a nice clump, and Ella Bella is a pretty double. I really like the looks of Volcanic Eruption too. The first red seedling is my preference of the two.

Has Richard gotten any intros from Sunshine hybridizing? Ashwood is closed now. I didn't know that he considered Sunshine his best.

Mantis, I probably should have said that he considered Sunshine his best tetraploid. I don't think he has registered anything from Sunshine. I think he has switched to dip breeding and has really cut back on the number of seedlings he plants each year.

We usually go every summer to see his gardens and talked to him a few weeks ago about visiting. Just too much hassle with masks and all out in the garden. I certainly can see that. Masks are bad enough inside, but outside in the heat they would be torture.

Nancy, I don't see the seedlings I don't kow why, but I have looked a couple of times. . Samsational looks as if it is a really vibrant color. Ella Bella s a rally pretty double, and I like Whirlybird.

I can see why Samsational might be difficult to capture-you can see many colorations in your photo. Saber Tooth Tiger certainly stands out in that clump! I like Hip Hop Music.
