Some Last Blooms and Some Just Beginning

This is the last bloom on I'm Gonna Love You Through It, Heidi Douglas's tribute to Breast Cancer survivors and inspired by Robin Roberts. When I bought this a few years ago, I just thought it had a striking bloom. I never dreamed how special it would become to me. After my mammogram in early June, I celebrated my first year of being a breast cancer survivor. Seeing this bloom last year, after my May surgery, always made me feel a little stronger. I didn't have any easy time with radiation, being badly burned and scarred, and then struggling with an infection for several months. But I made it through. So this year, every time I saw this flower, it made me smile and know there is light at the end of the tunnel. And it makes me remember to be thankful for my husband and my closest friends loving me through it all.

Reckless Girls still has plenty of buds to go.


From This Moment On, registerd as VL, is blooming now on five scapes.


Lavender Stardust and Unity Consciousness started blooming in a big way this week.


Rip Saw has been lovely and tall this year, and has bloomed for many weeks.


This is my late blooming seedling out of The Ultimate Sacrifice. And it's one of my top three favorite red seedings because it's late, because it has the widest gold edge, and because it's sunfast all day up to 97 degrees.


This is the last bloom on another Ult. Sacrifice kid that doesn't get much love when I post them all. When most of the other seedlings are done, this one really stands out.



The last bloom on "Big Peach Pattern," my favorite of the four Aztec Headress x Banded Broadbill kids. It's multiplied from one fan to four, and it has two prolifs I'll try to grow.

    Beautiful. I'm Gonna Love You Through It is my favorite here, nice that such a pretty one had such meaning for you. Love Reckless Girls too. Houzz is being funny today. I saw a post talking about read more, and realized today I do not have that read more, pics are showing up. So I am writing this on my phone. For the 1st time in months I can post on my phone.     Time to celebrate! May you Always be free from this disease. The tribute daylily is a wonderful bloom. Reckless Girls is the garden show off today, looks like a great performer. Again, your seedlings are so lovely, we can never see enough of them.

    Loving all the clumps and multiples and that yet another beautiful, group. Oooh Rip Saw - nice! Such delicate coloring yet toothy.

    Love both of the TUS seedlings but the first one a little more :) It's so colorful

    That is a really good anniversary. Happy for you. I really like I'm Gonna Love You Through It. Rip Saw is amazing and Reckless Girls is really a nice shot, but the back yard color is my favorite. I actually really like that second seedling.

    An open and honest post about the struggles and depths cancer can put us through. But also a celebration of fighting through it and celebrating anniversaries of victory. So happy you posted this. It is truly a message of hope. And now I will never look at that daylily again without thinking of you! Reckless Girls is so pretty in clump form as is Lavender Stardust. Your Ultimate Sacrifice seedling is just wonderful. Love the backyard look!

    I have never seen the daylily I'm gonna love you through it, it is a very beautiful one with lots of meaning. I too am a breast cancer 9 year survivor. so now I will try and find that daylily to add to my gardens. Thank you for showing it and God bless you with continued good health. I know what you mean about radiation it wasn't pleasant for me either.

    shawndee - Congrats on nine years of being cancer free! Best wishes to you for continued good health. I'm Gonna Love You Through It was sold by Browns Ferry Daylilies until recently when they put it on display. Sterrett Gardens also has it on display. If you contact them, one of the other is bound to have some they can sell by the Spring. Edited to say, I just saw Petal Pushers Daylilies has two available.

    That first year anniversary is wonderful and I look forward to many many more from you. You need to be well and fit to keep me posted on what new beauties are in your garden. I'm Gonna Love You Through It is among those beauties. That 3 bloom shot is gorgeous..........Lavender Stardust is always a winner and maybe one of these days I'll manage to find room for it........Hey, Nancy. You are right.     Debra, so glad to hear you are on the upside of a terribly exhausting emotional and physical experience . It speaks volumes to the strength it takes for you to overcome an illness like cancer come out the other side and continue on.


    I'll Love You Through It is a gorgeous bloom and in considering all you have been through will no doubt never leave your garden. That is the power of a bloom . Is there anything else that holds such power ?
