I'd add cream pillows to tie in the drapes and rug

I would get a coffee table ans wall art above the sofa, update the chandelier. Drapes look skimpy and short.

agree about drapes. They are too low, a little skimpy, and aren't long enough. extend the panels out past the window. look carefully at the DO picture:

you need some art behind the sofa. get something large enough. Sized like this larger one on the right.

you need a side table w/a lamp. (between the loveseat/sofa) pillows. and then whatever coffee table you plan on getting.

try doing all of those suggestions and it should make a difference.

Look at the picture above, or some other pictures to get ideas.

if you can paint the crown white, I think it would make it look a bit more updated. it's not that difficult to do. do a little bit every day.

as for the piano, try doing some decor like this

The paint does seem to clash a bit with the sofa. The sofa seems to be a warm color and the paint a cool shade.

I know you said you were leaving the trim as is, but... I have similar trim, and just painting the strip along the ceiling made a huge difference. I painted mine white to match ceiling.

Some option. I replaced console with side table and lamp, full drapes, coffee table, throw and cushions.

You can go with one large wall art or with gallery.

I would also agree with painting at least the top trim white and some cream pillows. I wanted to say that view out your window is lovely and serene. Don't do anything to detract from that!

Me neither Celerygirl. This is actually a blue, although it looks kinda green in the pictures. Given that the sofas are a sagey kind of green, what color would you recommend on the walls?

For sure paint the crown. and the baseboards if you can handle it. it really will make a difference in the overall look.

Pale Oak might work. and the blue grays/green grays will also work w/your flooring.

Smoke embers is also a nice shade for the walls w/the white trim

Thanks Beth. I love the blue grays and green grays and was thinking of going in that direction, although I was concerned that they would blend in too much with the sofas. Do you think it would look okay?

your sofa is brown. not sure how the blue or green grays would blend.

grab a few samples, or order these sample sheets from Samplesize.

Silver/gray would go good with your sofa color.

Having seen the couch, I would now say a neutral wall would be best, along with an accent color. I’m a fan if Sherwin Williams China Doll or Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray.

I like the idea of a true grey. Is there such a thing??? Don’t think ones with a purple or green undertone would look as good, and we have greige in the room next to it, so looking for contrast to that. Any suggestions on greys? Maybe a slight blue undertone would look good? Thanks again

any of these would work. I have Light Pewter in my kitchen area. it's a nice warmer gray that would look great w/your sofa. Pale Oak is still a nice choice. Smoke Embers is also nice and would look really good w/your wood tones, but it would be slighter darker. but, if you did your trim in Simply White, the room would be gorgeous!

Thank you for the suggestions Beth. Leaning towards Stonington Gray or Smoke Embers as they seem to have the most contrast with the sofas. Time to get a couple of samples!

Those colors ended up looking too similar to our sofas which are an olive green color. What do you think about a color like SW Silver lake?

Try SW Light French Gray. It is a true light gray that does not lean blue, purple or green in my house. To me it is the perfect neutral gray.

I would definitely paint for a more up to date and lighter look. You also have to pull in rug and the white piano. Textured cushions, coffee table with black legs to compliment rug. Soft white walls, but bring home lots of samples to test with rug and couch

Suggest cream curtains from Ikea that reach the floor, on a wide black rod to again pull in black and closer to ceiling. If you paint the trim it would be better.

Add some accessories And be sure to use some white to tie in the piano
