You need to choose your furnishings before you decide on a wall color. The color for your walls will depend on the color of your rugs, sofa, chairs, dining table, etc. You will have less options for those items, and have virtually unlimited wall color options. You may want to keep white or light walls if you have darker furniture.

Do you have furniture? You should choose furniture before paint but sometimes that hard to do.

I would recommend the blue from your kitchen tiles. The black, grey and blue would be a good combination for your color scheme.

I have furniture... But I would classify it as "rental furniture." Now that I have a permanent residence, I'm investing in higher quality furnishings, but I feel lost in regards to putting a room together pretty much from nothing.

So in other words you have a clean slate. The stone on your fireplace wall really isnt modern. Your kitchen cabinets are. I think a nice mix of warmth and industrial could work in the space. It looks like you have a fantastic lake? ocean? view. Think about a deep slate blue or navy blue for the wall. Id warm it up with a leather sofa but then bring it down with a concrete table. I would carry that mix, leather, metal, wood and concrete through. Art is subjective and I used it as a place holder but look how the art changes the whole look of the space in these renditions. The first takes it more rustic and the second more modern. Black and whites an entirely different direction.

Adding I would paint the long wall opposite the stone. That is your feature wall. That will be the back drop fro your furniture. Dress the slider with some simple crisp panels.

I really like the last one Design Interior South posted. The geometric rug is a nice contrast to the camel leather, and I like the repetition of the wood in the coffee table and tulip dining table.
