What a beautiful garden! Those figs and squash look very tasty! I like to plant marigolds next to my vegetables as well. They say the smell keeps the bugs away although I'm not sure if that's really true, but I like them just for the flowers too.

We've been getting quite a few garden visitors lately. I haven't seen any praying mantis in awhile, but they sure are cute:

I've never seen this kind of butterfly around here before. We usually get monarchs and tiger swallowtails, but this little guy was a nice surprise.

This was my first season to have the raised bed. My first time growing squash, which I found most rewarding! Very good beginner fruit, as it’s so fast to fruit!

I have been so enjoying Munstead wood’s blooms also... And figs! Anticipating a nice harvest this fall!

@Krista, the garden is being formed now... taking shape as I put down the roses after observing them for the past few years to see what the best plot would be for their needs... I hope the garden will take more shape next season!

JJ, your garden looks amazing. You sure do have green thumb. Yes, it will definitely mature and I am sure you will also try other vegetables and fruits. Love your Belinda's Dream. I was told to get it since it grows really well here in Fl.

Damask, it is proven that Marigolds do work. Also peppermint and rosemary. I would plant all 3 and used it to make oil spray as organic. I am sure there are recipes online how to do that. Love all your pics too !

@Plumeria Girl, I found Belinda’s Dream very pretty, the flowers can be even more full and at their best like cotton candy pink cinnamon roll size soft serve.

It is supposed to take heat well, but maybe humid heat like in TX or FL, because in dry heat like here in SoCal it does get fried. The bush itself is very nice, leaves are always lush green and tons of them! It is also very generous with blooming. The one drawback in my mind is that the fragrance is light compared to other roses like Munstead wood or Firefighter. The fragrance profile to me is like a loose face powder. The cut blooms also have decent vase life. The look of BD is different than the other roses I grow, so it provides a different visual texture to the garden I think...

Love all of the pictures, especially those of baby preying mantis, dragon flies, and butterflies - they demonstrate why no one should spray insecticides all over the garden - would have killed all of them, in addition to all of the bees and other beneficial insects.

Plumeria Girl - I will definitely try that! I haven't got any peppermint, but I do have the marigolds and there is a rosemary border between us and our neighbors. Thanks for the suggestion!
