She's a parasitic wasp, probably of something that lives in stems (see the length and beefiness of the stinger/ovipositor). If you can get a photo of the wings spread out, it would be helpful because these critters are often identified based on wing vein arrangement.

If course if it's common, people in your area might just be able to say, "o hey it's a XXX.".

What general region is your zone 6?

Perhaps an Ichneumon wasp; some do have wings as long as the body.
