but keep in mind.. just because you get your grubby little hands on them.. it might not be the best planting time ... as you are well aware.. we in MI have been going thru endless heat index near or above 100 degrees ... [yeah i know.. plants probably dont care about said index .. but who wants to be out there digging in it ...]

i would just put them in bright shade ... all together.. for ease of watering ...

or.. just put them. .pot and all.. where you want to plant them .. if you drag a hose around every day or so.. and wont forget to water them ...

btw... dwarf lilac might be half the height of the usual suspects.. but they can.. over many years.. cover a lot of ground ...

Good for you!! My local HD never has anything of horticultural value - other than inexpensive annuals and a few exotics - worth buying, let alone anything on clearance. Full price or the the plant is trash binned.

They also had ratty looking salvia for $3 on the clearance rack, but didn't specify the cultivar, so I passed. The HD's near me have a pretty good selection of perennials. I purchased some Pow Wow coneflowers for $6 each, which would've been $15 at the nurseries nearby, so a pretty good deal!

O/T - Ken, when you lived at 5 and Middlebelt, did you ever go to The Looney Baker? Every once in a great while I make the trek; my family loves their apple fritters, they're as big as a dinner plate! I highly recommend to anyone who lives in Wayne or Washtenaw counties.
