Stay with the sofa in pic. Use same paint gray owl n whole room. Accent, should be teal, peacock turquoise. In very small amounts. I would keep window panels 2 shades darker than walls and sofa. I like he charcoal chairs, but add a lime green pillow on back for color. It's a formal sofa. Could use mirrored end table and coffee table. Make coffee table square and big 36" .

If you have wood floors. Try a teal shag area rug 8 x10.

@ TravisInteriors Thanks for the advice. So you would advise against the black and white stripe wall? Window panels should be darker than the gray owl? The sofa is much darker than the color I've seen gray owl to be in other design photos. Love the like green option against the charcoal sofa. And I'm definitely doing mirrored furniture.

Attached is the stripe wall I was thinking of. What are your thoughts?

Beyond frames. Should say I like the 1 st rug at overstock. It's the aqua, with gold wash. Very nice. Great price too.

@annsec None of the photos I've uploaded are of my current space. They're all pics of the sofa I've found on the net. I'm literally working with a blank space and hoping to make it beautiful.

It's my favorite!!! It has everything to match this beautiful sofa. But other factors are also to consider before choosing one rug or another (floors, light , personal taste).

@travisinteriors After I went back to Macys to decide between sofa colors I went with the true gray called Granite which is more gray than the sofa in the photos. The sofa in the pics have a green undertone.

I would stick with the neutral colors like greens, creams, and sage. A nice rich dark green would go well with what you described, and you can never go wrong with earth tones.

I just purchased a new bed frame in the same color you described. I really wanted to stay with the gray, and add the traditional turquoise colors, but found that I could add warm colors that play off of the reds. I painted the walls a dark gray, with the wall behind the bed in fuchsia. The accent colors are in fuchsia, purple, and subtle greens ranging from bright to dark. I intend to use this for the bedspread and valances in the room. Pillows for thr bed will be selected in matching colors, but deeper in hue. Pictured is the fabric that will accent the room. Rug in subtle colors to blend well with the frame.

In response to styledelacreme after my original posting I have inserted an oriental rug into the composite simply because no one else has suggested it. I found the image used at Joss&Main.

As far as drapes are concerned, I really have no idea. I never use them.

Of all the teal rugs I've been looking at on the net, this rug is by far the most gorgeous. Can anyone tell me how to go about finding out where to purchase this rug? The designers never responded to 3 people's requests regarding the rug.

The dotted rug looks indeed as it would be better if used in a child's room than paired with your beautiful sofa, at least for me. I'd keep looking until find the perfect one. You might also try Homedecorators.com for really beautiful rugs - these are just some examples

I would go with golds/ yellows and whites, mixed in with black... consider adding trellis or chevron pillows and rug.

Beautiful Ushak carpet with blue & gold color combination would go nicely with the suggested colors.
Antique Turkish rug from Antalya it's a great investment piece that can add a lot character and warmth to the room.

Grey and yellow would be my vote!

Gray is neutral so any colors will look good with it. If you first decide on art you want to have in your room, it will prompt you your accent colors. It will be easier to find a rug, pillows, drapes, etc. than to find an art piece that you enjoy and that will still look good with the rest of your decor.

The rug you like looks good because it contrasts the orange chairs in the room, it is usually a winning color combination. It does not mean there are no other combinations that could work but you will need to decide which one you prefer :)... Raisa

If you are considering a gray/ yellow/ white palette my choice would be a more sophisticated one: gray/ mustard/ off white (or cream)

I think yellow would be nice but definitely soft like a butter yellow also a robins egg blue would be nice as well with a touch of chocolate brown as an accent.

Gray sofa , gray walls, feels like rain. Try a color on the wall instead of gray. Find a rug with colors that you like and can live with. Take your color palet from the rug. Too much gray in a room can be depressing. Spice it up !

Beautiful sofa, I can see why you fell in love with it. And I realize that gray is the color everyone is showing right now, but is this sofa one you will be willing to live with for years and years? I remember when my best friend built a house in the late 90's and decorated it in grays and chrome. The house is so dated now, and they cannot afford to replace all the carpeting, it was so costly when they had it installed. But on the bright side, now I guess they are back in style. Make sure this is a color you absolutely love long term. And I agree with anwutzke, don't do gray on the walls, and find a great accent color, almost all colors go with gray. She gave you good advice, find a great rug and go from there..

Sorry but I have to give you a bit of the warning for overdyed rugs. Those are old rugs that are treated with harsh chemicals to imitate antique rugs. In a process the fibers gets damaged and the life spun of the rug seriously limited. They don't last very long.

Those on Onekingslane are vintage rugs that have been redyed in Pakistan. Nearly all rugs have dyes. The Federal Trade Commission oversees the rugs shipped here and these meet with the EPAs "textile guidelines". I searched the EPAs website and there is no warning or recall I can find.
I own several. I've never heard of anyone getting sick or even any kind of chemical warning and can't find anything to substantiate that.

Yes, most of the rugs you get on the market are dyed. That's how they imitate antique rugs and kilims. And that's how you get a good prize. Most of them are frauds. Even serious dealers sells them. I know some very reputable rug dealers in Turkey and none of them wants to have anything to do with that kind of production.

Dorota, you don't have any reference you must be speaking for what takes place in your country but I get the feeling that styledelacreme is in a progressive country and doesn't need to worry about the rug she buys killing her.

Anyhow, where was I? Onekingslane.com has some beautiful overdyed rugs on sale today. But styledelacreme go to your local rug dealer and see what jumps out at you. It's a lot easier to make a buying decision if you can see, feel, smell and walk on the rug.

BEAUTIFUL GREY! How about a pale pink white paint. Turn into a semi glam look. Then add silver pewter hard wear for example lamps, etc.....

I love the rug! I like the movement in it, but it's still soft and subtle. Very nice. Keep us posted, I'm so excited for you.

Love the sofa and adding throw pillows in purple, turquoise and even apple green would really jazz it up. I like the rug but I think the yellow will need opposed by a blue or purple. Adding some florals in the apple green would look fantastic. Play with the colors and make it fun.

@angela Bonfante those are the colors I had in mind. Definitely will play with those colors to see how it all comes together. I actually wanted to buy wing chairs in the chair patterns in this living room I found on Houzz. My husband and best friend loved this look. But West Elm offers no protection on their furniture so he was concerned that if anything accidentally spilled on the chairs it would be ruined. In all of NYC, none of the West Elm stores had the wing chair in store for me to sit and test it out for comfort. I was bummed because I really did love the idea of adding 2 printed chairs with the rug.

We instead chose 2 wing chairs in the stripe in the swatch photo to compliment the solid gray swatch of what would be our sofa.

The associate from West Elm commented that their printed chairs offers a fun feel but 2 stripe chairs is more timeless.

I like the stripe chairs but loved the printed chairs. Husband felt it was better to protect our investment.

Went through the EXACT same dilemma as styledelacreme in regards to figuring out if the Saybridge couch at Macy's in Storm would work for us or not. The couch color although beautiful didn't complement our beige/grey walls and we don't want to repaint at the moment. Decided to switch the fabric to 'Clay' in their Gypsy fabric collection. It's a warm orange with some texture. Fingers crossed!
