Best butterfly friendly anti spider techniques

Hi All,
Its been a while since ive been here but I have a question. I built a nice butterfly house to raise my caterpillars on protect plants in there but my goodness ive never seen such a bad year with spiders. I have triple checked everything and patched all the holes in the netting. Im just curious if anyone knows of a good deterrant that wouldnt harm and cats or pupae?
