I thought you might like to see a shot of the seedling beds. Here is Bob evaluating seedlings. When he comes home at lunch, we walk the seedling beds. The blue tape indicates a plant that has been selected (We select too many, but it's hard to eliminate some).

Here is a row of Belle of Ashwood X Shores of Time. We love the flower on this one and it is making quite a show, but the bud count is lower than we want. It does show instant rebloom so we will continue to evaluate it.

Here is a vigorous grower, but the flower is not very unique and the color's not that great.

Here is the seedling Queen today. It is Wolverine X (Lavender Oasis X Tet. Rose F. Kennedy). We are surprised that it has teeth.

I would have such a hard time culling the seedling bed. For instance, what is that deep orange/red tallish daylily almost right in front of him? It sure stands out........You often wonder how people come up with the names of some of these daylilies. I don't know if I could get past some of them to look at the daylilies. Man Eating Bat? Is this a reference to the Chinese wet markets or what? Ick..........That picture of Samsational is so vivid. I had to look it up on the database. NO picture there posted, and I've never heard of the hybridizer, but I find it very colorful...................Maryl

I agree with Maryl-it would be hard for me to cull also although I know you have to get rather brutal doing that. Samsational is just that-what a strong color! And high bud count or not, I love the Belle of Ashwood seedling!!

I just love all the toothy ones you post and Man-eating Bat looks great. Forestlake Pleats for Laura is my other favorite, love that color!

I love that yellow. Is it, Forestlake Pleats for Laura? Man Eating Bat is a pretty one adn I love ethe color of Samsationsl and I want that orange next to Bob in the seedling bed. My color, nice height, yes, I need that one.

I just noticed I had the picture for Forestlake Pleats for Laura in the post twice. I have fixed it now.

Kay, I don't remember what the tall orange one is, but I believe Bob has selected it for further evaluation.

The bed where Bob is pictured is slated for elimination this fall. We will remove the blue-tagged plants to another bed (if we can find a space) and till this bed under. The new seedlings in 2021 will go there. I am expecting this year to be a low seed year with periods of drought and high heat. That's ok though. Sometimes it gives us a breather. We have enough in the select beds for several years worth of intros.

Nan: Send Bob back out into the field again before you plow it under to find that orange red one both Kay and I like so well. I hope that's the one he's thinking about evaluating. It sure does look good (but of course he'd be a better judge then we are I'm sure)............Maryl

My favorite is that long row of Belle of Ashwood x Shores of Time. It looks like it multiplies well and is very floriferous. How many buds does it have? I think you can go with lower bud count when you have instant rebloom. Samsational wasn't on my radar at all. I had to go back and find it after so many people mentioned it. That's not a color that resonates with me. I love Ashwood Smokey Joe and the seedling queen for today!

The trouble with the orange one (and many others) is they are often prettier at a distance than they are up close. But, we went out and looked at it. He will be keeping it. I'll try to get a close-up photo tomorrow.

My goodness. Those seedling beds are beautiful. The worse part about growing seedlings is I never wanted to throw any away.
