Help me save this Fiddle Leaf Fig! Reddish brown spots on top leaves?

Just bought what was supposed to be a 4-5 foot FLF from a local nursery. It arrived and it's 7 feet tall!! It has some strange reddish brown spots on the very top leaves only. I've had a few of these before (never as big as this) and am familiar with the brown over/underwatering spots, but haven't seen this. The top leaves are also very soft and limp, almost like a leaf of lettuce!
I pulled it out of the pot to look at the roots and it's rootbound, but they look pretty healthy.
Can anyone tell me:
- what the big brown splotches on the top are?
- how to treat the splotches, if that's necessary?
- should I repot this guy once he's acclimated to our apartment?
