So sad about Rudy, that is such a pretty bloom. Beautiful clump of Yesterdays Memories. Mary's Baby had an off year for me, not many blooms at all. Maybe it will make up for it next year.

What a shame Rudy was not a good grower for you. I remember how much you liked it last year. Yesterday Memories is a gorgeous pink clump, and I love the trio of Mary's Baby. Working Overtime looks a lot like Miss Goldie Gold Digger to me. Does it work better for you? I envy those pentas I see with it. I always buy red and pink pentas to attract hummingbirds and butterflies, but this year there were no trips to nurseries or garden centers because of the Covid threat. My butterfly bush died last winter, so there's not much to attract those adorable flying friends this year.

I’m sorry to hear Rudy fizzled this season, it’s so pretty. Mary’s Baby looks good! My Mary is getting used to her new spot, she got moved for a fence installation. Working Overtime is a nice yellow, hope it works out for you.

Very nice group and great picture of Mary's Baby! It's nice to see Working Overtime - I just added it this spring... it put up a tiny scape, which a bunny promptly clipped off, so I will be waiting until next year to see mine bloom.

Rudy isn't quite dead yet. Just lingering. I don't know why some daylilies do that. Start off with a big bang the first year only to slowly disappear the next year or year after. There's still time for it to "catch" and put on growth before winter dormancy.......Nancy: I did a hard divide on Mary's Baby this spring so mine wasn't its normal self either. Plus we had another weird spring with cold/cool temperatures up until the end of May .............Debra: Yesterday Memories is close to the pink of a rose. It's just such a marvelous performer and has the awards to prove it...... I like the single bloom form on Working Overtime much better then Miss Goldie and Working Overtime is supposedly more vigorous. If you read Judy Davisson's blurb about it, Working Overtime was one of her favorites too..... Yes, the virus has impacted a lot of people and businesses. I didn't visit any of the mass market box stores during the initial phase of the virus, but stuck to small private nurseries where there wasn't any crowd. The problem was also with the supply of plants. The selection was reduced by half. Truckers and wholesale nurseries also were much affected during the shut down. Even some of my mail order sources were hard pressed to keep up with the demand. I have no idea what pansy season will bring............Sherry: My Mary's Baby took about 3 years to reach her blooming capacity. Give her time........Laura: You were robbed! Bunnies aren't supposed to eat daylilies. Must have been a young one. If they ever develop a taste for daylilies I'm in deep trouble since Yardley my garden cat passed over. Kate: We do like our yellows. Actually Working Overtime veers into the gold range, which can be too harsh for me, but it still has enough yellow to make it attractive. It seemed to be mostly colorfast with light fading in a few places, but it only had a few blooms and I was too busy to really tell how they all did relevant to really high temperatures...............Maryl

Nice group Maryl. The Jerry Murphy one looks a lot like Orange Overload (Korth) that I grow here with the same type of eye color. Very tall, large blooms and well budded this year.

Rudy is gorgeous! Do you have any ground to try it in? It is a shame to lose it. I like Working Overtime too.

Thanks so much for updating us on Rudy. Too often, people rave about a cultivar, and then all of a sudden one hears that it is splotchy much of the time or died or whatever. Rudy has Rose F. Kennedy as a parent. Someone (a very knowledgeable grower) from Kentucky recently told me that Rose F. Kennedy is a tender dormant. That accounts for so many of the problems that some Northerners have with it. Did you have late spring cold weather? That may account for Rudy's demise.

I didn't mean to miss thanking you all, but I just got over a virus and was out of circulation for awhile.......Thanks Julia for the picture. Yours does look pretty and tall. I'm still not much on eyed daylilies in my garden and I may not keep the two I have. Just me though as I like them in other peoples gardens................Mantis: Rudy isn't gone yet only because I haven't had time to dump it. It's a goner I'm pretty sure. I actually had two of them. I got a new small start this spring along with my more vigorous one left over from last year. The small start didn't last anytime before caving in. The older one was only in a small 6 inch pot last year, but did pretty well in it. I've found however that underpotted is better for daylilies then over potted and it didn't grow vigorously enough last year to need a bigger pot. I overwintered Rudy in my unheated attached garage, so cold weather should not have been a problem in the spring. I do appreciate the info about Rose F. Kennedy heritage. The hybridizer said something about it, but I don't remember what now. Is Rose F. Kennedy a wimpy daylily in itself? I don't know as I've never grown it berfore.............Kay: Our soil is hideous clay. We had a Noah's ark kind of spring this year, so that one of my 30 year old clumps of Pandora's Box daylilies in the ground almost died out from the all the water. A small, new daylily wouldn't have stood a chance. I have very few if any space in a raised bed for daylilies. Maybe that can change some day, but not right now.......Thanks everyone for looking. I still have some daylilies blooming even now. It has surprised me how long some of them have kept blooming................Maryl
