I recently started a compost pile near the house, and I'm not adding kitchen scraps to it, because I don't want to attract rats or mice.

My veteran gardener friend suggested that I instead bury my kitchen scraps in the ground where I intend to create my eventual veggie garden. The soil is a combo of hard clay and loose fill - and there are no earthworms or other organic matter to be seen in it.

But if I bury my kitchen scraps in the dirt, am I instead feeding the moles, voles, and gophers? (There's evidence of former rodent activity in the area). Do they eat banana, citrus, and avocado peels? Thanks so much for the education!
