Two ffo's and my lingering blooms

It's miserably hot here - supposed to be 98 degrees this afternoon with a heat index of 107. I imagine Maryl and Kate have it even worse. I had two ffo's this morning, and considering the heat wave, the heavy dew and the bugs, they looked pretty good. Both of these are early bloomers, but are blooming late here because they're new.

Steven Scott Derrow is one of several intros I bought this Spring from Mike Derrow. He's a great person to buy from, and he even sent me a couple of his 2020 intros as bonuses. I got this purple and Star Lord, which Maryl will be interested in because they are both offspring of Mary's Baby but are larger flowered cultivars.. I wanted Star Lord after seeing Mantis's photos of it. I also bought Empire of Dusk and Dawn because Hoosier Nan has sung its praises for a few years.

A Groovy Kind of Love is a Browns Ferry intro. I'd admired it for several years and bought it during the Douglas's Spring Sale.

My rebloomers were looking particularly pretty today.

Blood of the Martyrs has rebloomed on two scapes and has a scape coming on a new fan it added last month.

Fighting Fire is reblooming on a second scape now.

Sweeten Creek is still reblooming.

The Ultimate Sacrifice started another rebloom scape.

The Tribble With Blue has two rebloom scapes started, and a third one still developing.An excellent cultivar from MIke Derrow.

Seedling Into the Mystic x Symphony of Praise has six scapes reblooming. The rebloom scapes are taller and better budded than the first scapes. This one will be registered in a few weeks. It will be named in part for the Gypsy cat Coco.

Seedling TUS x RE #2 is reblooming and has a second rebloom scape on the way.

Fantastic blooms Debra. The purples are outstanding in color and form. Your seedlings appear to be doing very good too even with the hot temps.

i do not envy those temps and ours dropped from mid90's to now 71 after a storm came through. Stay cool and I hope the heat wave passes quickly.

Thank you, Julia! I'm pleased with the purples. I was glad to see the red seedling was holding its color in the hot temps. I've been watering the seedling beds, so they are in better shape now than my registered ones. It looks like we're going to be in the high 90s for the next several days, and the mid- to low 90s for the rest of the month - which isn't unusual for Nashville. Last year we stayed int he 90s until the first week of October.

What lovely blooms, Debra! I particularly like Steven Scott Derrow, Blood of the Martyrs, Fighting fire and Ultimate Sacrifice. The seedlings are both lovely! and I will be wanting that one Mystic x Symphony of Praise when you intro it.

I really like your two new purples, right up my alley! Wow, the Mystic seedling is such a great performer, 6 rebloom scapes for you, I don’t think it could be any better! The weather was oppressive here yesterday too, don’t think we’ve experienced humidity like that in decades.

Kay - Steven Scott Derrow and Blood of the Martyrs are exactly what I was looking for to cross with my purple seedlings. Three friends on other daylily sites bought Blood of the Martyrs this year, and they are all as happy with it as I am.

Sherry - The Into the Mystic seedling is doing well to have six instant rebloom scapes. But it could do better - I'd love to see all 20 fans with rebloom scapes. The two clumps of it I have next to Dearest Valentine have shaded her so much she only has five rebloom scapes this time. I usually get at least six on DV.

SSD and Blood if the Martyrs are my favorites, but I like the reds too. Not that I would be unhappy with any of them, a really nice post on a hot day.

Blood of Martyrs is my favorite. Emmerich is one I'm taking more of a look at lately. I tried one Derrow a few years back and it was not colorfast at all. He has worked with Norris daylilies so I like that, and I do look at his. Just because one of his faded I can't really judge them all. That wouldn't be very fair. Just disappointing for my first daylily from him..............Maryl

Maryl - Which Derrow did you try? Was it Lunar Empire? That one will fade on a 95 degree day.
