I have her! She is in her second year, very vigorous, she is not very bendable for a climber, so if you want to bend her do it early. her first flush was amazing, she is starting her second flush now.

this is my sisters Pearly Gates, about 3 yrs

old. I agree with previous comment train young because the canes are stiff.

Thank you Lala! Looks like a perfect climbing rose.👍😊How tall is that? About 6 feet or 7 feet? Do you get good rebloom? I too have a baby Pearly Gates and am deciding where I am going to plant it.

Gorgeous photos!! I just got an own root PG from Roses Unlimited. I saw this climber years ago at a Houston Rose Society garden tour there and never forgot it. Now I know why! Cant wait for mine to bloom!

@Lala Idaho Zone 7a your sister PG is amazing!! Can you ask her to give some tips on pruning he? she did a great job!

It does rebloom fairly well. She pretty much neglects it haha! Little pruning. She has three in different locations and they are all gorgeous. I would like to get one next year as well.

Wow! Thank for you more photos! Love them

I have it new this spring, and am loving her so far. Such pretty large flowers and fragrant too.

Wonderful pictures guys. A rose worth owning. How does it compare to Lady Ashe? I have Lady and she also has those stiff, stand straight up canes. LA is beautiful for me but has been a slow repeat this year during heat, but gorgeous when she does.

@Lala Idaho Zone 7a How long do the flowers last? Thanks!

The flowers last a fair amount of time. not the longest but longer than many.

Does your sister garden in dry, hot Idaho like we do, Lala? That cuts down on how long a bloom lasts for me, but her Pearly Gates is stunning. I'll have to check Edward's rose list which went up today, but I don't remember seeing it. Thanks for posting the wonderful photos. Diane

I ordered an own root from Roses Unlimited last year but Snowmageddon last February weakened it and it eventually died. I have another on order for this spring. I saw one years ago at a garden tour in Houston........and never forgot its beauty. Huge, gorgeous blooms! Looking forward to trying it again.

I'm considering getting Pearly Gates from Edwards locally. It will be a five gallon plant, so I hope it would get off to a good start. My own root Julia Child is fine, but inferior to my two grafted ones, and I'm dealing with an OR Abe Darby that won't grow much after five years. Alameda, I hope your Pearly Gates does well for you. Diane, my sister lives in Eagle.

I purchased two Pearly Gates last year from Edwards. I see they offer it again this year. You should get one if you have an open spot.

I really have no room for any more roses but will buy a couple for my daughters birthday present. She lives in Weiser on a couple acres so I can shop for her haha!

@Lala Idaho Zone 7a does it have strong fragance?

    Yes it smells lovely.

Thanks for the information, Lala. I love Pearly Gates but am thinking I don't want to take on another climber at my age, and I have no neat fence to grow it on. You have a lucky daughter unless she doesn't want to grow roses. Diane

My brand new Pearly Gates put out several buds, but deer got all -- except one! Cut that and brought it in after it was open in the garden, and it's still lasting five days later.

Oh no @DDinSB (Z10b Coastal CA) so sorry about the deer!! pearly gates does lat a while in the vase!

Yes -- still looking good on day 8!

Looking for pearly gate - is Edmunds the source to purchase from? Will it be a well worth purchase?

@avon1950 .Thompson I didn't buy Pearly Gate at Edmunds, but I have purchased other roses and they look great this year.

My own root PG came from Roses Unlimited - it came with a bloom on it.

Hey Alameda, As I recall you are the queen of the pot culture getto in Texas. - I moved to Austin late Dec. I only brought 3 roses that I put in pots as I am leasing for the next year while looking for a house. I learned David Austin was not going to carry Dark Lady next year and as you may recall from my post she is my favorite Austin and she does not perform well on own root. Austin stopped sending bare root roses to Texas long ago but agreed to send me 2 plants if I waved the warranty. Potted them last week put compost up on stems. I have not grown in pot for years so any suggestions beyond the obvious keep watered will be appreciated. Thanks BR

    Hi, Friends,

Love your photos of Pearly Gates!!!!

I just bought Pearly Gates as it came available again from Guerney’s. It will be a bareroot coming in a couple of weeks. No one else seems to even sell it right now-out of stock or I’d order it from Roses Unlimited -an own root. Nevertheless, I am very excited!

Love her large HT light pink pearly pristine blooms, honey scent, dark green leaves!!

Avon, Did you get to order one! If not-try Guerneys now.

    Enjoy! Happy Gardening!!!!
