That is wonderful to hear! (not that they met their demise, but that there were loads of them). I've seen activity around my yard -- hard to tell if it's the same few flitting around all day or there are many, I'm inside most of the working. I have seen a couple of caterpillars on the milkweed, and I am noticing a lot of what I think are swallowtails.

Although I wonder -- could the large numbers be due to early migration southward? I swear fall is in the air -- I can smell it (some of you know exactly what I'm talking about, others probably think that is a looney comment LOL!).

It was kind of strange that the greatest numbers were located on the western side of northern Iowa. I could almost always see one or two in the air or on the ground, and would hit one every 1-3 minutes. But, that only lasted for a few hours. Then they became much less frequent. Here at home, I am seeing one or two daily, and have found eggs or small caterpillars on some milkweed, when I look closely. So, I think it’s encouraging.
