Wow, your Bobos are so impressive!!! Mine never looked like that, not even half as good...it got shovel-pruned a couple of months ago. Yours are absolutely stunning!! Are they in full sun? How do you prune? Please share your secrets!

How long did you have your BOBO?

This border of 7 BOBOs is in full sun. (I have one slightly larger one that it is in the backyard that is in part sun and it isn't as far along in terms of flowering but it will be in full bloom before August 1st.)

I prune all of them a bit sometime in late winter (maybe about 6" all around) but I really only do that out of boredom at that time of the year ;).

(I do not lay down any store bought "man made" fertilizer but do apply compost from March till October...depending on which bins have enough usable compost).

Did you replace your shovel pruned BOBO with another hydrangea?

Absolutely stunning! I’ve never had the discipline to make a border of singular plants like that, but seeing your work makes me really second guess my poor gardening choices :)

That is what is so appealing about perennial gardening to me. There are an infinite # of permutations and combinations re plant selections and there placement in the garden. I love seeing in person other peoples gardens. During COVID times this has been more than problematic.

I replaced Bobo with a vegetable garden! It was in a prime, full sun area of my backyard...I also moved my Limelights and other perennials to make space for my veggies, but couldn't bring myself to find a new spot for Bobo, as it had been a disappointment to me for a few years. I have Limelight, Little Lime, Quick Fire and Little Quick Fire, and also Firelight...they've all been stellar performers. Maybe I just got a bum Bobo??

That is one of the appealing things about the panicle hydrangeas (not just BOBO) ie no flop, able to take lots more sun and more water conserving.

Thanks katob. What is nice to have in one's 'back pocket' is that they will give an excellent display from mid July until mid October...3 months (with a nice deep pink in October). I like Bobo because the blooms are quite white and the shrub size is moderate ie 4 feet tops.

How many Bobos do you have whaas?

I looked all over for BoBos this early summer and couldn't find any in the nurseries and the online sellers were all out as well. I stopped to see the butterfly house at the big nursery yesterday and there they were! Rather pricey but really big so I bought one. Now I need to go back quick and get another as I see exactly where they are going! I was a little leary of white hydrangeas because everything white turns dirty looking but I like these.

And yet up our way they seem readily available this year. And like you I find they are pricey.

For these BOBOs pictured they generally go from white to pink w/o going through the 'dirty' look.

What a lovely garden and perfect use of Bobo! I have two here in different parts of the garden and both are doing very well. It seems like you can't go wrong with most paniculatas.

I’ll try to post my first photo of my Bobo border. It gets full sun for only about 3 hours a day. I like the upright stems and the fact that it stays white. These Bobos have been in the ground about 3 years.

Very nice Bobo pictures from everyone! I think I’m the only person they don’t like! I have lots of paniculata hydrangeas that do well here - but not that one! I don’t think it’s even going to bloom at all this year and will probably not make it through another winter :-(. Clay-based soil, full sun, and no water but natural rainfall just does not suit this one! Other hydrangeas in the garden look a little limp by the evening but are blooming and thriving. Not this one.... *sigh*

Wow, I would have thought that such watering would have kept BOBO happy.

I planted 3 Bobo last weekend and have been watering them with a soaker hose. Fingers crossed that they will make it through the Winter and thrive next year. On the plus side, I bought a 25 lb bag of Hollytone on clearance at Walmart for $12, which I think is a pretty good price considering that an 8 lb bag is $26 on their website.
